Join us in-person or online for "Care, Community and Hope", a hybrid children's and young adult literature conference at 麻豆官网.
Reading has long been celebrated for its ability to transport readers to fantastic realms and far-away places, offering a much-needed respite from the challenges of everyday life. Yet these stories also possess a remarkable capacity to grapple with complex, and often difficult, realities. Young readers can engage with diverse perspectives, tackle complex social and environmental issues, and envision alternative futures. Children鈥檚 literature has 鈥渢he potential to generate a desire to explore, question, and learn how to become something more than we are now鈥� (McAdam et al, 2020, p. 383). Similarly, young adult literature can demonstrate ways in which 鈥渁gency, community, and progressive movement can be found along the liminal edges of society鈥� (Williams, 2023, p. 7). In this hybrid conference, we will explore children鈥檚 and young adult literature from interdisciplinary and radical perspectives as a means of inspiring empathy, fostering community, and cultivating hope in a time of great upheaval, uncertainty, and division.
The day will include plenaries from Professor Vicky Macleroy and Dr Yu-chiao Chung, Sita Brahmachari, Professor Karen Coats, and Professor Michael Rosen.
